Scottsville SchoolMy theory was that we were caught up in — the big thing had nothing to do with Scottsville, in my opinion. My opinion were we were thrown in as a giving something back to Burley being closed, and my feeling is that nobody cared about Scottsville. We were a total afterthought. But it’s my feeling that the people at Burley weren’t real crazy about going to Albemarle High School and Lane High School. I mean, they had a very proud heritage there. They were doing great in academics. They were doing great in sports. They were happy, and they didn’t want to reach out into those unchartered waters, and they would’ve been very happy to be where they were. That’s my take on it. On the same token, Albemarle and Charlottesville were under the gun with all deliberate speed. My opinion is that all deliberate speed was wearing thin. My opinion is that they had just about run as long on that as they possibly could and in some smoke-filled room somewhere, somebody said, “It ain’t going to happen anymore. You’ve got to make this happen.”
